Everyone has negative thoughts every once in awhile. Unfortunately, it seems to be part of human nature to allow thoughts to drift to the negative from time to time. With that being said, there are individuals that allow negative thinking to cloud their thought processes and their emotions almost all of the time. If you are one of those individuals, you might be filled with anger or fear. Perhaps you have anxiety or depression as a result of your negative thinking. The good news is that you can use the law of attraction to stop negative thinking and change your life. Below are five steps that can help you stop thinking negatively and start attracting the positive energy that you really want.
1. Just because something happened in the past
Some people have been traumatized by something that happened in the past to the point that they have trouble getting around it, despite their best efforts. If this describes the problems you are having, you can tell yourself that just because something happened in the past, it doesn’t mean that the same thing will happen again. Learn to repeat this phrase a lot, especially when you feel stressed or when a certain situation makes you remember negative events of the past more strongly. Make sure that you always finish with a deep breath that cleanses your body, mind and spirit.
2. Putting it on paper
If you are employed by emotions that are are especially strong, like deep anger or even fear, it might work for you to put these emotions down on paper. In other words, write down what you are feeling and if possible, right down the things that have happened in the past that have led you down that particular path. After you have written everything down, either wad the paper up and throw it away, shred it or safely burn it. When you do, imagine all of those negative emotions being destroyed in the same manner that the paper was.
3. Set boundaries with yourself
Once you have allowed yourself to get into a pattern of negative thinking, you have to set boundaries with yourself, especially at first. Promise yourself that you will not allow any negative thoughts into your mind for the rest of the day or even for the next hour. Once you achieve that goal, tell yourself that you are going to make the next week better by not allowing those negative thoughts to creep in. Every time you set a boundary and honor it, you are keeping a promise to yourself that is helping you get out of that habit of negative thinking.
4. Adopt a positive mantra
You can adopt a mantra that is positive or repeat affirmations of the same nature that help you deal with controlling your thoughts. For example, you can repeat things like “I’m okay” or “I’ve got this,” in much the same way as you can tell yourself “there is nothing to worry about” or “this is going to work in my favor”. Find one that really works with you and keep repeating it every time a negative thought creeps in.
5. Stopping your thoughts
At first, it might be hard to control your thoughts. That is why you have to learn how to stop those negative thoughts when they begin to take over your life. Every time you sense that feeling of dread coming back in, learn to consciously place your thoughts somewhere else. That might be on an event that you are looking forward to, a pleasant memory or a daydream that gives you a lot of joy. Find something that you can put your mind on other than the negative thoughts and focus on that instead.
Now that you know how to better control your thoughts, you can start learning how to use the law of attraction to get the positive things in life that you really deserve. Like anything else, it all takes practice but once you have learned how to do these things, you can completely transform your thinking and thus, your life.
